Hammered Copper Sheet - Doing It Yourself

By Daniel Kitts Achieving that hammered look on copper sheet can be achieved with some simple tools available in almost any home and you wont need torches or ovens of any kind. First, acquire an appropriate size piece of copper sheet. The important thing to remember in this task is to get the correct thickness and temper (or hardness) of copper sheet. Unless you really want a workout, I recommend a thickness of .021 inches. This thickness of material can also be called 24 Gauge or 16oz. When selecting the temper, request soft material. This temper copper sheet will accept the hammering marks more easily and will result in less sweat on your forehead. Also, soft copper sheet is more pliable and can formed by hand, if you need to bend it. Next, you will need a backing board for the copper sheet. If you have a piece of plywood, that would be great. Normally, soft copper sheet comes rolled in a coil. Unroll the copper sheet and secure it to the plywood with a nail in each corner. Try to get the sheet as flat as possible. Now, place a towel on top of the copper sheet. Now, a hundred years ago, your typical coppersmith would have a dozen hammers in his rack to provide various functions and finishes on the copper sheet. However, we will use just one, the ball peen hammer. The rounded end of this hammer will provide the indentations we most closely associate with that hammered look on copper sheet. When hammering the copper sheet, let the weight of the hammer do the work. You really dont have to hit the copper sheet very hard to make an indentation. Many softer hits close together will look better than a few big dents. Keep in mind that many different finishes can be achieved with this process. Also, if your backing material has a texture, hammering on it will emboss that texture on the copper sheet. One of the more interesting looks can be achieved by hammering the copper sheet on concrete. The pocked and gritty surface resulting from this backing gives the copper sheet an aged and distressed look that is quite appealing. Clearly, the sky is the limit when it comes to the variety of finishes you can hammer into this durable material. An important word about safety, always wear eye protection when you are hammering copper sheet and gloves do help when handling the sharp edges of the copper sheet metal. Good luck on your project of hammering copper sheet. Legalizing Crime

By Sam Vaknin The state has a monopoly on behaviour usually deemed criminal. It murders, kidnaps, and locks up people. Sovereignty has come to be identified with the unbridled - and exclusive - exercise of violence. The emergence of modern international law has narrowed the field of permissible conduct. A sovereign can no longer commit genocide or ethnic cleansing with impunity, for instance. Many acts - such as the waging of aggressive war, the mistreatment of minorities, the suppression of the freedom of association - hitherto sovereign privilege, have thankfully been criminalized. Many politicians, hitherto immune to international prosecution, are no longer so. Consider Yugoslavia’s Milosevic and Chile’s Pinochet. But, the irony is that a similar trend of criminalization - within national legal systems - allows governments to oppress their citizenry to an extent previously unknown. Hitherto civil torts, permissible acts, and common behaviour patterns are routinely criminalized by legislators and regulators. Precious few are decriminalized. Consider, for instance, the criminalization in the Economic Espionage Act (1996) of the misappropriation of trade secrets and the criminalization of the violation of copyrights in the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (2000) both in the USA. These used to be civil torts. They still are in many countries. Drug use, common behaviour in England only 50 years ago is now criminal. The list goes on. Criminal laws pertaining to property have malignantly proliferated and pervaded every economic and private interaction. The result is a bewildering multitude of laws, regulations statutes, and acts. The average Babylonian could have memorizes and assimilated the Hammurabic code 37 centuries ago - it was short, simple, and intuitively just. English criminal law - partly applicable in many of its former colonies, such as India, Pakistan, Canada, and Australia - is a mishmash of overlapping and contradictory statutes - some of these hundreds of years old - and court decisions, collectively known as “case law”. Despite the publishing of a Model Penal Code in 1962 by the American Law Institute, the criminal provisions of various states within the USA often conflict. The typical American can’t hope to get acquainted with even a negligible fraction of his country’s fiendishly complex and hopelessly brobdignagian criminal code. Such inevitable ignorance breeds criminal behaviour - sometimes inadvertently - and transforms many upright citizens into delinquents. In the land of the free - the USA - close to 2 million adults are behind bars and another 4.5 million are on probation, most of them on drug charges. The costs of criminalization - both financial and social - are mind boggling. According to “The Economist”, America’s prison system cost it $54 billion a year - disregarding the price tag of law enforcement, the judiciary, lost product, and rehabilitation. What constitutes a crime? A clear and consistent definition has yet to transpire. There are five types of criminal behaviour: crimes against oneself, or “victimless crimes” (such as suicide, abortion, and the consumption of drugs), crimes against others (such as murder or mugging), crimes among consenting adults (such as incest, and in certain countries, homosexuality and euthanasia), crimes against collectives (such as treason, genocide, or ethnic cleansing), and crimes against the international community and world order (such as executing prisoners of war). The last two categories often overlap. The Encyclopaedia Britannica provides this definition of a crime: “The intentional commission of an act usually deemed socially harmful or dangerous and specifically defined, prohibited, and punishable under the criminal law.” But who decides what is socially harmful? What about acts committed unintentionally (known as “strict liability offences” in the parlance)? How can we establish intention - “mens rea”, or the “guilty mind” - beyond a reasonable doubt? A much tighter definition would be: “The commission of an act punishable under the criminal law.” A crime is what the law - state law, kinship law, religious law, or any other widely accepted law - says is a crime. Legal systems and texts often conflict. Murderous blood feuds are legitimate according to the 15th century “Qanoon”, still applicable in large parts of Albania. Killing one’s infant daughters and old relatives is socially condoned - though illegal - in India, China, Alaska, and parts of Africa. Genocide may have been legally sanctioned in Germany and Rwanda - but is strictly forbidden under international law. Laws being the outcomes of compromises and power plays, there is only a tenuous connection between justice and morality. Some “crimes” are categorical imperatives. Helping the Jews in Nazi Germany was a criminal act - yet a highly moral one. The ethical nature of some crimes depends on circumstances, timing, and cultural context. Murder is a vile deed - but assassinating Saddam Hussein may be morally commendable. Killing an embryo is a crime in some countries - but not so killing a fetus. A “status offence” is not a criminal act if committed by an adult. Mutilating the body of a live baby is heinous - but this is the essence of Jewish circumcision. In some societies, criminal guilt is collective. All Americans are held blameworthy by the Arab street for the choices and actions of their leaders. All Jews are accomplices in the “crimes” of the “Zionists”. In all societies, crime is a growth industry. Millions of professionals - judges, police officers, criminologists, psychologists, journalists, publishers, prosecutors, lawyers, social workers, probation officers, wardens, sociologists, non-governmental-organizations, weapons manufacturers, laboratory technicians, graphologists, and private detectives - derive their livelihood, parasitically, from crime. They often perpetuate models of punishment and retribution that lead to recidivism rather than to to the reintegration of criminals in society and their rehabilitation. Organized in vocal interest groups and lobbies, they harp on the insecurities and phobias of the alienated urbanites. They consume ever growing budgets and rejoice with every new behaviour criminalized by exasperated lawmakers. In the majority of countries, the justice system is a dismal failure and law enforcement agencies are part of the problem, not its solution. The sad truth is that many types of crime are considered by people to be normative and common behaviours and, thus, go unreported. Victim surveys and self-report studies conducted by criminologists reveal that most crimes go unreported. The protracted fad of criminalization has rendered criminal many perfectly acceptable and recurring behaviours and acts. Homosexuality, abortion, gambling, prostitution, pornography, and suicide have all been criminal offences at one time or another. But the quintessential example of over-criminalization is drug abuse. There is scant medical evidence that soft drugs such as cannabis or MDMA (“Ecstasy”) - and even cocaine - have an irreversible effect on brain chemistry or functioning. Last month an almighty row erupted in Britain when Jon Cole, an addiction researcher at Liverpool University, claimed, to quote “The Economist” quoting the “Psychologist”, that: “Experimental evidence suggesting a link between Ecstasy use and problems such as nerve damage and brain impairment is flawed … using this ill-substantiated cause-and-effect to tell the ‘chemical generation’ that they are brain damaged when they are not creates public health problems of its own.” Moreover, it is commonly accepted that alcohol abuse and nicotine abuse can be at least as harmful as the abuse of marijuana, for instance. Yet, though somewhat curbed, alcohol consumption and cigarette smoking are legal. In contrast, users of cocaine - only a century ago recommended by doctors as tranquilizer - face life in jail in many countries, death in others. Almost everywhere pot smokers are confronted with prison terms. The “war on drugs” - one of the most expensive and protracted in history - has failed abysmally. Drugs are more abundant and cheaper than ever. The social costs have been staggering: the emergence of violent crime where none existed before, the destabilization of drug-producing countries, the collusion of drug traffickers with terrorists, and the death of millions - law enforcement agents, criminals, and users. Few doubt that legalizing most drugs would have a beneficial effect. Crime empires would crumble overnight, users would be assured of the quality of the products they consume, and the addicted few would not be incarcerated or stigmatized - but rather treated and rehabilitated. That soft, largely harmless, drugs continue to be illicit is the outcome of compounded political and economic pressures by lobby and interest groups of manufacturers of legal drugs, law enforcement agencies, the judicial system, and the aforementioned long list of those who benefit from the status quo. Only a popular movement can lead to the decriminalization of the more innocuous drugs. But such a crusade should be part of a larger campaign to reverse the overall tide of criminalization. Many “crimes” should revert to their erstwhile status as civil torts. Others should be wiped off the statute books altogether. Hundreds of thousands should be pardoned and allowed to reintegrate in society, unencumbered by a past of transgressions against an inane and inflationary penal code. This, admittedly, will reduce the leverage the state has today against its citizens and its ability to intrude on their lives, preferences, privacy, and leisure. Bureaucrats and politicians may find this abhorrent. Freedom loving people should rejoice. Adoption Runs in Our Family - Part I

By John Anderson I was born on a hot summer morning in Minneapolis, MN. Six months later I was adopted. I grew up in a working-class neighborhood in south Minneapolis, just a few blocks away from the Mississippi River and Lake Street. Evie was born 23 months later and grew up in the “poor section” of the Washburn High School district. Our fathers were middle-class workers, my Dad with the Minneapolis Gas Company, and hers as an inspector with the City of Minneapolis. My Mom was a full-time homemaker, hers, a working mom doing part-time bookkeeping during the war. We each have an adoptive sibling, Evie a brother, Jim. I have a sister, Mary. At some time early in my life my parents told me I was adopted. I didn’t understand what that meant and didn’t think much about it. I could never understand why some kids laughed at me when they found out. One even called me a bastard. I just shrugged my shoulders and walked away. For me, being adopted was just a fact of life. Unfortunately for my sister, it wasn’t. She learned when she was seven and it destroyed her. I asked my parents why they hadn’t told her and they said that she wasn’t ready to find out. I never was able to understand why I was ready to know at three and she wasn’t at seven. Evie learned early on and fantasized that she was the lost daughter of a princess. Her parents regularly read her The Chosen Child, which dealt with adoption. We both led normal lives, but I had a strange experience when I was four-years-old. I was told from the beginning that no one knew who my other mother was. But one day I came in from playing and found her crying. “your other mother died,” she said. How could she have known if nobody knew who she was I wondered. I still wonder to this day, but I did find out that my birth-mother wasn’t as anonymous as I was led to believe. More of that in Part II. Evie and I lived through the ‘Forties and ‘Fifties and graduated from High School. Evie went to Washburn and I attended Minnehaha Academy, then went on to college. Evie went to Hamline University and the University of Minnesota. I graduated from the University with a three-year break with the Army after my Freshman year. We met in 1966 and married in 1967. In 1973 our son Clint came along. Clint was healthy and happy, but definitely like neither of us. He shares our facility with language, speaking full sentences at 9 months and able to carry on adult conversations from the age of seven. But while Evie and I have trouble changing a lightbulb, Clint is literally a mechanical genius, scoring at the 9999th percentile in an mechanical aptitude test. From the beginning he was fascinated with cars. I’ve always liked them, but I didn’t have to have one next to me on my pillow when I went to sleep. His intelligence has worked against him. Bored in school, he began to get in trouble from an early age. When he was seven we were surprised to find a pizza delivery man at our door. “Some woman ordered it,” he said. It was Clint. Later he started to run afoul of the law by stealing hubcaps and escalated to frequent trips to the Anoka County Jail. He finally was sentenced to a community corrections program, where they forced him to attend school and finish his high school degree. Since then he has worked in any number of jobs, including owning and running his own businesses, and has added numerous certificates for car and computer repair, as well as a low-voltage electrician license. Besides being unlike us in interests, he is also unlike us politically. He is a hard-core Republican and we are life-long Democrats. Our daughter Katie is totally unlike him, and us. She is bright, sweet and artistic. Like Clint, she hated school. An undiagnosed ear infection caused hearing problems during the crucial language development stage. Her speech is fine, but she has difficulty understanding figurative language. She also was diagnosed as learning disabled, but not at a severe enough degree to require Special Education classes. (To me, this always sounded like having only one leg, but not being eligible for services because you didn’t limp badly enough.) Her academic problems were compensated by her artistic gifts. She is a very talented writer and keeps a diary. Once, when little, she described an extended trip to northern Minnesota. “We drove and we drove and we drove.” She also won an award for a statue she made in a school art’s class. She also has high moral standards, and went through her teens drug and tobacco-free. We couldn’t be more proud of her. After she finishes a course in aesthesiology she intends to become a make-up artist. We’re sure she’ll do a wonderful job. Like us, she’s an animal lover. She graciously is leaving two dogs for us to care for. In short, being adopted doesn’t seem to have been such a big thing for our family. As we grew up, Evie and I would have liked to know more about family health issues. That problem has been solved because we both have found our birth-families. Neither of us have had abandonment issues, or at least not conscious ones, and I don’t think Katie or Clint do either. Since we have met out birth-families, it has been nice to know people who look like us. Our children seem to be comfortable that they are adopted, and we can always think that the really good things about them are due to their upbringing, and the things we don’t like, to heredity. The discovery of our birth families is told in Part II. John Anderson is very anxious to learn of adoption experiences/issues and invites you to contact him at http://cmasterpiece.com. He is the author of a mystery-thriller, The Cellini Masterpiece, written under the pen name of Raymond John. If you would like to read the first chapter of the book, it is available at the above web-site. Male Role Models Vs. Female Behavioral Cognition

By Rion Williams For you ‘advanced’ guys out there, I’ve got a question. Is it more important to have alpha male models of behavior or to be cognitive of female behavior itself? If you had to choose one, which would you rather have to accelerate your dating and ‘mating’ abilities? The answer is clear to me and it’s not what other people have thought nor have been focusing on. It’s clearly to be cognitive of female behavior. This is more important than studying Clint Eastwood or 007 to any extent. It’s even more important than improving your personality or ’skillsets’. Yes this even eclipses my earlier work on ‘being alpha’ and the best you can be (which is still important). Sure the Heroes are important role models of masculinity in the natural, inner and even social sense but when compared to having female root character cognition, it’s a no-brainer. I’d rather understand women. Consequently, I’ve realized that they have always been the path to ’sex’ and life. You don’t have to be NIS Alpha as a male to succeed with women even. You just have to understand female behavior and connect with their true sexuality which is easy after you have cognition and grounding of it. Look, I consciously improved myself for over a decade on my ‘inner game’ and it really only helped after I was in a relationship with women..it didn’t really attract them ‘TO’ me. After sex, they just wanted me more for my ‘personal’ attributes for a longer term relationship. I improved myself for so long and it didn’t have a direct effect. You could be a great guy, even closer to a macho man but it won’t help you. That’s why my definition of ‘inner game’ is never enough. You can be the greatest man in the world but if you don’t understand women, you’re lacking in the one thing that probably means the most to you. Look at bodybuilders. They transmute negative sexual energy into creating larger bodies only to find that women still don’t respond so they build their bodies even more. Energy is transmuted into all different kinds of ways. I focused it positively into improving myself for over a decade. Although I still had success through much of that, it wasn’t until I was cognitive of female behavior that everything skyrocketed. Even great, balanced guys are wondering why women don’t respond and if something is wrong with them. You can be a ‘great guy’ like I was and it isn’t the direct answer to success with women. Neither is improving your ‘inner game’ in the concept of finding ways to get the social prize of a woman’s exploited sexuality for your benefit. So if you want to be a TRUE ladies man, then you’re going to have to seek the truth of women. Unfortunately you just won’t find it in our own social reality. Why? Because it’s been repressed from the age of 15 onwards in our women. Social influence, peer pressure and developmenttook to much of an effect from that point onward. I’m proud that my youngest sister is going to Interlochen instead of being a part of the mainstream public school system her Junior year. I didn’t use to believe in institutions or private schools but when you compare it to the level of massive social influence that exists today, it’s an excellent alternative to preserve natural character and inner skills instead of adapting to a hierarchical social status game. Anyways, back on our main subject here…I believe it’s more important for a man to be cognitive of female behavior and by that I primarily mean the natural alpha behavior which isn’t behaviorally evident in our women anymore. The truth is, that IS their sexuality. Remember how pre-teen girls used to flirt back in school? Remember how intuitive, emotional, responsive and exciting they were? I had my own cult fan club even back in the day (which I never did anything with). Well, once you become cognitive of a woman’s true sexuality (in developed age-appropriate women) your reality with women will change. Cultivating this cognition as I call it is not something instantaneous either, yet it’s the most valuable thing you could do. Why? Because you LIVE in a behavioral reality of Inner and Social Alpha models of female behaviorism. That is all that we see in our everyday reality. The true sexuality and natural character of women has been repressed. The art of seduction itself is essentially bringing that character back out of women. I will clearly show you this character and help you gain cognition but you will have to want to study it. I frankly see it as the only real solution for millions of men who are lost with the incomprehensible behaviorism of our women today. They will almost always only have sex with men who see this character or bring a fraction of it out of them anyways. What’s happens when you are grounded in a behavioral reality of the natural/sexual relational dynamic to women? The truth that I honestly have not seen any other expert clarify ever..what happens? I’ll let you figure that one out. Being comfortable and habitually attracting the women (everywhere you go) who used to be repelled by you is a priceless feat. I’m just now realizing how importance of all of this; cultivate cognition of relational dynamics and female behaviorism with a natural alpha female model as your nexis of their sexuality and everything will change. I see no other answer. No hypnosis, no NLP, no body language technique, nothing but the truth and grounding yourself in it. It’s worth it but it’s only there for those who seek it. Studying male alpha role models doesn’t even compare to the importance of cultivating cognition of female behavioral and relational dynamics. Nature is the one missing element here and it’s just been repressed within the women you want. Learn to see their true sexuality (their nature) and that they are the ‘path’ to sex and you will attract women and ‘close’ the deal with them because you are their chance to reconnect with their own suppression. Tanning Beds, Are They Worth The Risk?

By Fritz Blanc It is always interesting to see how some people ignore the inherent risk in certain type of activities for the sweet joy and instant gratification that it brings them. It can be a smoker who knows or should know by now, the risk associated with smoking, which is lung cancer, still they smoke and tell you that their grandfather was a chain smoker and lived to be 97. The same goes for some people involved with sun tanning, they want to be dark year around regardless of the mean of tanning. In the summertime, it is fairly easy, every moment they get, the’ll be out there in the sun, trying to improve their tan. The winter is another story, they have to physically seek for a tanning facility such as a tanning salon in order to fulfull their desire. College students used to flock to tanning bed studios to trade their winter white skin for a more appealing golden cinnamon hue in spite of the fact that the American Academy of Dermatology warned and continue to warn the population that tanning beds tanning can be as dangerous as if you were actually lying under the sun’s rays with unprotected skin. Every year, one million or more new cases of skin cancer are diagnosed. Which makes it the most common form of cancer in North America. As a matter of fact, the ultraviolet light used in tanning bed has been known to produce melanoma and nonmelanoma skin cancers. Some states have passed a law that will require tanning studios to warn tanning worshippers about the danger associated with the UV radiation in tanning beds. But with tanning salons being so accessible, it is very hard to resist the temptation of trading the winter pale skin for a quick brown tan at $5 to $10 a session. A study conducted on people suffering from psoriasis has shown that the use of acitretin, a dermatology treatment used for people suffering with psoriasis, combined with tanning beds helps their disease. It would be wise to better inform yourself on the use of that treatment and your next session at the tanning studio if your suffer from psoriasis. A group of people who have been careful about their bodies and their tans are the bodybuilders. They know how important tanning is to their looks and how it can really show the cuts and muscularity when exposed under bright spot lights. They have been using products like “Sunless Tanners” which gives a great tan without the harmful effects of the sun and it can easily be washed away with a quick shower. It is up to you to choose whatever make you happy. A little moderation can go a long way specially when it comes to sun tanning. By Lance Winslow Perhaps you have heard about the College Papers online for sale. The students know that if they are caught cheating that they will get a Failing Grade in the class and many colleges and Universities now have expulsion for a second offense. This is because if the kids cheat then the degree from that academic institution is indeed worthless in the market place and it taints the schools reputation. Website sites commonly offer; Term Papers For Sale and School Papers Cheap. Although in the end one has to ask; Why do College Students Cheat? They are only hurting them selves as our Grandparents would say. So why do they cheat? Ah ha ha ha! The Devil will always tempt the weak. What is at the root of this problem? Poor parenting? Does the devil make young couples get together to have more kids so as to entice the new generation into the Evil Ways. The Devil is happy that people do not need licenses to have children and is very happy to see that no one is addressing the root of the real problem of piss poor parenting. Ah ha ha ha! Get More Business by Staying Visible

By Rochelle Togo-Figa Heres the scenario: Youve been working with a client for a while and youd like to increase the business youre getting from them. You know there may be other opportunities to work with the company but youre not sure how and when to ask. There are simple steps you can take to ensure bringing in new business from your current clients. Here are 5 easy ways to grow business from an existing client. Ask for a meeting. After a project has completed, ask to meet with the client to discuss the results of the project and to discuss some new ideas. If youve done good work for a client, the level of trust and quality of the relationship has increased because the client believes in you. You have proven yourself to the client, so they will be happy to meet with you. Ask for feedback. Find out if the client is satisfied with the most recent projects delivery and ask if there are any suggestions for improvement. Then ask what the companys future needs are. If the client tells you there are no opportunities at this time, ask when it would be good to follow up. Before you leave the meeting, confirm the agreed-upon time you will be in touch. Staying in touch with the prospect keeps the door open for future business. Ask for referral business. After the client has expressed satisfaction with your service, ask for referral business, either within the company or outside the company. Say to the client Im delighted youre happy with our service. Its been a pleasure working with you too. Is there anyone else you think would benefit from speaking to me? Ask if they can give you the names then. If they cannot, set up a time in the next week to follow up for the names and phone numbers. Keep the client updated. Another way to stay visible is by keeping the client informed of new products, services, or programs, either developed by your company or that have recently come on the market. Your client will appreciate being informed of the latest cutting-edge products for their employees. This shows youre thinking of ways to help the client and youll soon become their trusted partner. Stay in touch. Your client may not have an immediate need for your services, but that can change. A no today can easily become a yes tomorrow. Stay visible by touching base with the client periodically via phone or e-mail. I keep an ongoing list of prospects who have expressed interest. I then send them a brief email letting them know I was thinking of them and their business, asking if theyd be interested in having a chat with me. More people respond quicker to email than the phone. ASSIGNMENT Make a list of 3-5 clients you would like to contact for more business and a date by which you will call them or send them an email. Write down a description of the project you completed for each client and the results you produced. Write down a list of questions, ask for feedback on your previous work, and ask what you can do for the client now. Write down what to say when asking for a referral. Practice asking the questions and for the referral request until you feel comfortable saying them. (c) All Rights Reserved.
